4 Bahrainis Sentenced to 15 Years: 99 Judged within a Week

A Bahraini court jailed on Wednesday four citizens 15 years each after accusing them of detonating a bomb that wounded an Asian worker in Manama, a judicial source said.

Two of the defendants were in the dock, while the other two remain at large, said the source.

The verdicts, which resemble the previous vengeful ones, included accusations of founding terrorist organizations, attempted murder, bombings, and possession of fireworks, according to the Bahraini opposition.

99 Bahrainis have been sentenced within 4 days.

According to the charge sheet, the four were accused of “forming a terrorist group, attempted murder, and (carrying out) bombings”.

Prosecutors say they planted two roadside bombs in November last year in Manama’s Al-Adliya district. One bomb exploded near a rubbish bin wounding an Asian worker, while the second one near an electricity generator was defused.

The Secretary General of the Islamic Wefaq association Sheikh Ali Salman had considered that the package of the aggravating sentences against the opposition members reflect the unfair trials that all the detainees were subjected to.

Amnesty had also slammed the ruling against them as appalling and demanded a probe into allegations that some were tortured.
